In 1528, Hernan Cortes introduced cocoa to Spain, after it was discovered at the court by Montezuma, the emperor of the Aztecs. The Aztecs prepared a bitter and spicy drink with restorative and aphrodisiac properties. The drink of the gods was reserved for the emperor, the nobles and the warriors.
